Tom zawiera terminologię dotyczącej wieloletniej zmarzliny, podanych zostało 245 najczęściej używanych określeń, opracowane w pięciu językach: angielskim, francuskim, niemieckim, rosyjskim i polskim. Praca ta jest efektem podjętej próby zebrania najważniejszych pojęć z tego zakresu. Autorzy zamierzają ją okresowo aktualizować, zachęcając do zgłaszania uwag i sugestii dotyczących doboru definicji terminów i formatu, a także do ich zgłaszania, aby udoskonalić i ujednolicić terminologię w zakresie wieloletniej zmarzliny.
