Artykuł poświęcony jest badaniu kurumów – typowych formacji peryglacjalnych. Przeanalizowano zasięg geograficzny, historię ich powstawania oraz terminologię. Przedstawiono podział na strefy zależne od szerokości geograficznej i wysokości występowania kurumów, zdeterminowane współzależnością czynnika klimatycznego, cech litologicznych skał oraz składu nieskonsolidowanych osadów. Szczegółowo zbadano ruch pokrywy gruzowej kurumów, wywołany szeregiem czynników, z których głównym jest spełzywanie. Przedstawiono również współzależność dynamiki kurumów z reżimem temperaturowym skał podścielających.
