Vistuliańskie zjawiska peryglacjalne w południowo-zachodniej Walii

Przedstawiono cztery modele dotyczące rozwoju i zachowania zjawisk peryglacjalnych w zachodniej części Wielkiej Brytanii. Opisano występowanie osadów soliflukcyjnych, kopalnych klinów lodowych oraz innych form peryglacjalnych w południowo-zachodniej Walii, odnosząc je do plejstoceńskiej stratygrafii tego obszaru. Osady soliflukcyjne często osiągają znaczną miąższość pod osadami glacjalnymi, natomiast powyżej są znacznie cieńsze. Sugeruje się, że południowo-zachodnia Walia doświadczyła długotrwałej fazy peryglacjalnej we wczesnym i środkowym vistulianie oraz krótkiej, lecz intensywnej fazy peryglacjalnej po późnovistuliańskim zaniku lodowca Irish Sea. Dane terenowe wykazują stosunkowo dobrą zgodność z przewidywanym rozmieszczeniem i charakterem omawianych zjawisk. Granica zlodowacenia vistulianu nie powinna być traktowana jako linia wyznaczająca północny zasięg rozprzestrzenienia form peryglacjalnych w Wielkiej Brytanii; formy te mogą być bowiem częstsze wewnątrz tego zasięgu niż na południu Anglii.
