W dużej części ostatniego okresu zimnego, przynajmniej w jego kulminacyjnym stadium, Polska Środkowa była obszarem dominującej erozji wiatrowej i deflacji. Obrobione przez wiatr kamienie i ziarna piasku wskazują na silną działalność eoliczną. Najlepiej wykształcone eologliptolity występują głównie w brukach kamiennych i osadach kongeliflukcyjnych. Mniejsze cząstki, przede wszystkim ziarna piasku, nie tworzą osadów powstałych bezpośrednio w wyniku akumulacji eolicznej. Znajdują się one w położeniu wtórnym, przemieszczone przez kongeliflukcję, spłukiwanie lub inne procesy stokowe. Fakt ten uważa się za wyraźną konsekwencję wysokiego położenia stropu permafrostu, charakterystycznego dla zimnych pustyń. Obniżenie stropu wieloletniej zmarzliny, prawdopodobnie w czasie Starszego Dryasu, sprzyjało intensywnej infiltracji wody, a w konsekwencji – wysychaniu powierzchni. W takich warunkach wzrastająca aktywność eoliczna początkowo formowała pokrywy piaszczyste, a następnie – tworzyła różne typy wydm.
Seria próbek z osadów wypełniających zagłębienie bezodpływowe w Józefowie posłużyła do konstrukcji krzywej morfoskopowej, która z kolei ukazała aktywność wiatru od co najmniej interstadiału Brørup aż do końca kulminacji podczas ostatniego okresu zimnego. Stosując tę samą technikę zrekonstruowano działalność eoliczną, w osadach wydmowych w Katarzynowie. Chronologia działalności wiatru w warunkach zimnej pustyni w Polsce Środkowej była niemal taka sama, jak w rejonie lessowym wyżyn Polski południowej.
