ORIGINAL TITLE: Le rapport de l'accumulation du loess aux processus de la formation des dunes dans la région de la Ste-Croix
Research conducted in the Holy Cross Mountains region indicates a close relationship between loess accumulation and the processes which formed dunes whose source material was fluvio-periglacial deposits originating during the Middle Polish glaciation and subsequently reworked during the Würm glaciation. Stratigraphic and lithological analyses show that aeolian sorting of the rock material led to the separation of sandy and silty fractions, resulting in the formation of dune complexes and extensive loess covers of variable thickness. The granulometric and mineralogical variability of the sediments, as well as the direction of loess accumulation, confirm the dominance of westerly winds during the Pleistocene and the continuity of aeolian processes up to the present day.
