Studies on the geomorphic characteristics and development of slopes in the periglacial zones of Sikkim and Darjeeling Himalayas

Research on periglacial slopes shows that their development is mainly controlled by climatic and microclimatic factors, while geology plays a secondary role. At higher altitudes, frost action forms concave profiles; lower zones are dominated by solifluction and plastic flow, producing convex slopes. Quantitative analysis reveals an inverse relation between slope steepness and curvature, reflecting a shift from erosional to depositional processes.
