The author describes cryoplanation terraces observed in southern and northern Yakutia during fieldwork conducted in 1966. In southern Yakutia, the terraces were studied in the Aldan Highland (1100–1600 m a.s.l.), while in the north they were examined in the Kular Ridge (250–280 m a.s.l.). Observations show that cryoplanation terraces are widespread and occur in rocks of varying resistance. Their development is mainly linked to the parallel retreat of frost-riven cliffs and scarps, aided by snow patches. Frost weathering, solifluction, and running water play a crucial role in their further evolution. The study concludes that although these processes are still active today, they were significantly more intense during the Pleistocene. Cryoplanation terraces represent an important landform element of the nival (subnival) climamorphogenetic zone and deserve greater attention in geomorphological research.
