The problem of the origin of loess in Poland

Recent years have brought a revival of discussion of loess issues. One reason for this renewed relevance is the development of periglacial research. This primarily concerns the genesis of loess. The most important achievements of recent Polish research in this field include: the transition from adapting general theories to direct, more in-depth studies; the identification of the complex of processes involved in loess formation; the identification of the periglacial environment in which these processes occurred; the study of loess parent material and the development of research methods.
Most prominent among the open problems and emerging research needs are: the issue of "typical subaerial loess," the problem of the aeolian process and its exclusivity, and the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the morphogenetic characteristics of the periglacial environment.
