Abstract

The petrographic method, which has recently been used widely by foreign researchers, deserves attention. Where previously used criteria of shape and structure fail, it provides a new criterion for the genetic classification of periglacial forms. Grains of loose rock material (sand, gravel, boulders) undergo different formations in different physical environments. Examining grain size and shape (indicators of flattening, asymmetry and rounding) supports the reconstruction of the formative processes and, indirectly, to the determination of the climatic conditions prevailing during accumulation.
