Abstract

Research on Silesian loess focuses on the Oława Valley, near Henryków, where loess forms deposits with a thickness ranging from 0.5 to 7 m. Analyses of grain-size indices using the Schönhals method and the study of sandy intercalations showed that the fine-grained nature of the material increases with distance from the valley, while the sandy intercalations gradually disappear. The mineral composition and grain roundness indicate the contribution of local material, including crystalline shales. The results confirm the aeolian origin of the loess, with dust transported by eastern winds, interacting with solifluction processes. Loess was primarily formed from the weathered material of periglacial river sediments and surrounding hill rocks, with the involvement of aeolian accumulation and slope movement.
