ORIGINAL TITLE: Présentation des cartes mondiales du périglaciaire
At its meeting in Fez, Morocco, on October 27, 1959, the IGU Commission on Periglacial Geomorphology decided, at the request of its chairman, to revive André Cailleux's earlier project on the creation of world periglacial maps. Specifically, the following types of maps are required: world maps: one showing traces of the fossil periglacial period and another showing contemporary manifestations of periglacial conditions; maps of various countries, prepared according to established methods; and large-scale field-mapping maps. The project generated considerable interest, and the project's essential elements and the division of preparatory work were approved. A manual for the preparation of both world maps was developed. This manual contains essential elements regarding the map content and the principles for conducting the work.
