Between 1956 and 1964, there was a significant advancement in research on periglacial geomorphology worldwide, which led to a substantial enrichment of the data base. This progress was driven by the intensification of expeditions to polar regions, as well as by an increasing number of detailed field investigations that supplemented earlier, more general surveys. The findings from these efforts were regularly published in the U.G.I. bulletins and in Biuletyn Peryglacjalny.
