The beginnings of Polish research on processes active in a cold climate are presented. The beginning of the 20th century is associated with the research of Walery Łoziński and the introduction of the term Periglacial to the literature. In the interwar period, Polish expeditions to polar regions were undertaken. The period after II-nd world war brought the development of research in polar regions, as well as in areas affected by periglacial processes in the Quaternary. Polish researchers were very active both in publishing and in the international exchange of views.
