Progress of youthful sedimentation in the region of Hornsund

Intense melting and outwash induced by climatic changes and deglaciation are operating in the area of Hornsund. Rock-fragment material, carried by short rivers is being largely deposited on the surfaces of abrasional terraces and raised beaches.
It has established that the sediments differ in character dependant on that of the aqueous environment. The composition of the deposits due to near-by transportation shows signs of unformity. An attempt has been made to determine their character on the basis of their mean dimensions and grain-size gradation. Within the peńglacial zone of West Spitsbergen, contemporary sedimentation and the resultant development of youthful accumulational landforms are progressing rapidly.
