Rozwój współczesnej sedymentacji w rejonie Hornsundu

Intensywne topnienie lodu oraz działalność wód roztopowych, wywołane zmianami klimatycznymi i deglacjacją, mają miejsce w rejonie Hornsundu. Materiał skalny transportowany przez krótkie cieki wodne w znacznej mierze deponowany jest na powierzchniach teras abrazyjnych oraz wyniesionych plaż.
Stwierdzono, że osady różnią się charakterem w zależności od warunków środowiska wodnego, w którym zachodzi sedymentacja. Skład depozytów, wynikający z lokalnego transportu, wykazuje cechy jednorodności. Podjęto próbę określenia ich charakterystyki na podstawie średnich wymiarów ziaren oraz stopnia ich uziarnienia. W strefie peryglacjalnej Zachodniego Spitsbergenu współczesna sedymentacja oraz związane z nią powstawanie młodocianych form akumulacyjnych postępują w szybkim tempie.
