Zakres zjawisk peryglacjalnych w północnej Anglii

Różnorodność współczesnych i kopalnych zjawisk peryglacjalnych w północnej Anglii jest znaczna. Dokładna interpretacja geomorfologii tego regionu jest niemożliwa, dopóki zjawiska te nie zostaną w pełni zbadane, a ich znaczenie prawidłowo ocenione. Na Wyspach Brytyjskich było niewielu badaczy zajmujących się zjawiskami peryglacjalnymi, a opublikowana literatura zawiera jedynie sporadyczne wzmianki na temat tych form w północnej Anglii. Chociaż poczyniono pewne postępy, szczególnie dzięki pracom Hay'a i Caine'a, dokładna rola procesów peryglacjalnych w kształtowaniu brytyjskiego krajobrazu pozostaje w dużej mierze nieznana. Autor podkreśla, że właściwe zrozumienie regionalnej geomorfologii wymaga dokładnych i systematycznych badań różnorodnych form peryglacjalnych, zarówno aktywnych, jak i reliktowych, które występują na tym obszarze.
