In October 1959, the second meeting of the IGU Commission on Periglacial Geomorphology was held in Morocco. Researchers from 11 countries took part. The programme included scientific sessions, a field trip to the Atlas and Rif Mountains, and working meetings. Discussion focused on periglacial phenomena and their relevance to Quaternary research. The Commission decided to develop global maps of past and present periglacial features.
