Abstract

The subject presented in the article is consistent with a discussion that has been taking place among linguists for years to define the phenomenon of polysemy in the language and setting bondaries between polysemy and monosemy. Thoise issues have been discussed multiple times in relation to general and historical, whereas, the subject of polysemantic words in dialects, in particular, verbal derivates, has not been widely described so far. The reason for this condition seems to be fragremantirity of lexico-graphic data and relatively little progress of works related to dialect wordformation. The purpose of this article is to present verbal polysemy origin mechanisms in dialects based on the available dialect sources and to compare his state with historical Polish language.
