Abstract

In the article the author addresses the problem of translating texts which contain very interesting dialectological data from the areas of Grodno and recorded in the late nineteenth century by Eliza Orzeszkowa, and later published in the People and flowers by Niemen in the “Vistula” magazine. Her remarks apply to both bilingual text Эліза Ажэшка, Людзі і кветкі над Нёманам. Нарысы на дзвюх мовах. Першая суместная публікацыя, Мінск 2012. Eliza Orzeszkowa, People and flowers by Niemen, Collection of essays in two languages. The first joint publication, Minsk 2012 as well as the translation of the following publication: Э. Ажэшка, Людзі і кветкі над Нёманам, in: Аповесці, апавяданні, нарысу, Мінск 2000, c. 457–503. Presenting all errors against predetermined value of the set of phytonyms for dialectologists, botanists, ethnolinguists and researchers of folklore. The author considers the purpose of such releases distorting completely the content of the original material.
